Welcome for International Patients

Whether you’re an expat parent seeking a spine check for your teen, or an adult managing long-standing curve-related back pain, Nucellin Orthopedic Clinic (Yongsan, Seoul) provides doctor-supervised, English-friendly scoliosis care. Led by Dr. Kim Hee-Jun (Yonsei University · Severance Hospital training), we focus on accurate assessment, practical guidance, and targeted treatments to help you live and move with confidence.

What Is Scoliosis?

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that may also twist (rotational component). It’s often detected in adolescence (idiopathic scoliosis) but can also be present or progress in adults (degenerative or idiopathic). Many curves are mild and simply need monitoring; others benefit from guided exercise, posture correction, bracing (for adolescents), or pain-relief procedures when specific structures are irritated.

Common signs: uneven shoulders/hips, one shoulder blade more prominent, clothing hanging unevenly, or back pain and fatigue after sitting/standing.

Final diagnosis and management plan follow a physical exam and imaging review (standing spinal X-rays are standard for curve measurement).

Who We Help

  • Adolescents & young adults: curve screening, monitoring, exercise programs; brace coordination when indicated
  • Adults with scoliosis: back/leg pain management, posture & mobility training, targeted injections for facet/SI pain when appropriate
  • Post-surgical patients: rehab to restore mobility, strength, and functional tolerance

Our Treatment Approach

1) Precise Evaluation

  • Orthopedic exam, posture and gait analysis
  • Imaging review or referral (standing X-rays; MRI if neurologic symptoms)
  • Clear explanation of Cobb angle, maturity status (for teens), and risk of progression

2) Conservative Care First

  • Personalized physical therapy: spine mobility, core/hip strength, breathing and rib-cage mechanics, balance and endurance
  • Posture & ergonomics coaching: desk setup, lifting, travel strategies
  • Home program: travel-friendly exercises with written/video guidance
  • Bracing (adolescents): referral and coordination when curves and growth status indicate benefit

3) Targeted Procedures for Pain Drivers (Case-by-Case)

  • Facet joint injections / medial branch blocks for facet-related pain
  • Sacroiliac (SI) joint injections when SI dysfunction coexists
  • Trigger point injections for stubborn myofascial knots
  • Epidural steroid injection if there’s nerve irritation from stenosis/degeneration
All injections are image-guided (ultrasound/fluoroscopy) for precision and safety.

4) Integrated Rehab & Follow-Up

  • Milestone-based progress checks
  • Communication with schools/employers or your physician back home on request
  • Surgical referral only when clearly indicated (progressive severe curves, refractory neurologic issues)

FAQs (Quick)

  • Do all curves need a brace or surgery? No—many mild curves need only monitoring and guided exercise.
  • Can exercise change my curve? Exercise improves posture, strength, and comfort; structural change depends on age, growth, and curve size.
  • Is scoliosis why I have back pain? Sometimes; we identify pain drivers (facet/SI/muscle) and treat them directly.
  • Can I keep training? Usually yes—with technique and load modifications tailored to your spine.
